So, I've been going to this place called Lisa's House for pau hana (means finish work... we like to go to a bar, have some drinks, eat some pupus). It's pretty much a dive, but my friends and I like it.
Anywho, we had a party in their private room tonight and I just had to come on here to let you know about the worst customer service experience ever!!! In the middle of playing darts, the waitress asks me to step outside in the common area and tells me that there is outside food and I need to remove it. Apparently, the birthday girl's Mom put some musubi in a box for the birthday girl. Simple mistake, just a Mom being a Mom.
Well, a few minutes later, I hear a commotion in the room and it's the birthday girl talking to a frustrated waitress. She apparently is not going to give back the deposit I put down ($50) because there is outside food. WHAT?! Since when does a deposit pay for that??? Her voice got shrill and she yelled to my husband, "you're not allowed to come back here ever again!!" She stormed off, muttering obscenities under her breath.
A few more minutes later, the owner storms in and asks to speak to me outside in the common area. Here we go again! In front of all of her customers, she starts talking down on me like I'm a child. She said, "LET ME ASK YOU A QUESTION. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS?!" Craziness, right?! She tells me she loses money when someone brings outside food, yadda yadda yadda. I calmly explain to her that it was an honest mistake and I wasn't aware there was such a rule and that no one told me anything about the deposit being taken away if that would to have ever happen. She showed me a contract that I have never been shown before. Even so, the contract said nothing about losing a deposit over bringing in outside food.
Keep in mind that we probably spent more that $500 in food and drinks tonight. And thousands in past patronage. We are regulars at this place!
She kept continuing to yell and me and my husband until he mentioned writing a bad Yelp review and THEN she changed her tone and decided to let us keep our deposit. Let me tell you, it was the waitress, the bartender, the owner, and some guy whom I didn't know all trying to argue with us. It was ludicrous.
After that bit, we were avoided by the waitress, and we kept having to go outside to the bar for drinks. PLUS we heard her mutter all kinds of things under her breath!
And the sad thing is that they totally ruined the birthday girl's night. Oahu peeps... Never give your patronage to Lisa's House!!!
Is it just me or was this really totally off the mark?

I have owned a bar and grill, and I have never heard of such horrible behavior!!The deposit thing really threw me off, too! Sorry you had such a bad experience and have to fina a new hang out!!
That is absolutely horrible! The places here won't let you bring in outside food, but not because they'll "lose money". It's because of liability issues (if you give someone something they're allergic to, the place can be held liable). However, if you do bring in something, they'll nicely ask you to take it out and that's the end of it. How this place acted was completely unprofessional. I would still write the bad Yelp review. Unacceptable.
Totally unacceptable is right and I agree with Starla....I would still write a review stating poor customer service! Time to find a new hangout that will accept your money....their loss!
My mom and aunt live on Oahu, I will definitely tell them to steer clear. What town is it in?
Not right. I worked retail for many yrs & always treated my customers well. I even had some customers that tried to push my button to make me get angry but I did not sway. By the way I was in O'ahu the end of Mar for a wedding on the beach. Stayed at the Waikiki Outrigger on the Beach and the customer service there was great especially at the Duke's restaurant. Liked the POG juice & Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi. Enjoyed a bus tour of the Northshore. The day we went to Pearl Harboe the boat was stopped from going over to the Arizona Memorial because the Navy that operates the boats said it was too windy. Now hubby & I find out there was a bridge that the bus could have gone on and taken us to it directly. We did get some money refunded from this tour.

OMG how unprofessional... I would spread the word to the regulars who hang out there and say "NO MORE LISA HOUSE"! so uncool - shameful especially for the owner of that place to act that way. Their big loss!
You bet your sweet bippy, I would pass the word around about those horribly, outright mean, people! No more Lisa house for anyone!
I hope the birthday girl pushes that memory totally out of her sweet mind.

Sorry to hear about that! Definitely bad customer service, esp. the owner and that they did not mention any contract before!
